A VISIT TO FAWOMANYO BY REVEREND SUSAN GRAHAM OF THE CHURCH OF GOD OF PROPHECY (COGOP-UK) on AUGUST 24TH 2018

As answers to their prayers before, during and after our Homecoming Festival in 2017, the Lord has done so many things for the people of Fawomanyo. The Community has experienced tremendous grace and spiritual upliftment as a result of constant intercession, outreaches and other interventions in the Community. One of such is the visit by Reverend Susan Graham of the Church of God of Prophesy – GOGOP-UK. Rev. Susan was a guest at the Maiden Homecoming Festival last August and was moved to touch lives in Fawomanyo. True to her words, Rev. Susan in collaboration with a partner, Minister Maxine Douglas both of the United Kingdom arranged and sent down several books for donation for the benefit of the Community Basic School. For this trip, Rev Susan was accompanied by Sis. Janet Afriyie, a member of her congregation in the UK.

Nana Kwadwo Tanno II first received Rev. Susan at his residence in Accra before the scheduled trip to Fawomanyo. The trip was very necessary for Rev. Susan to have a closer engagement with the community and personally hand over the books which were before then in Accra, where they were delivered.

The first stop on the trip was a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive for Ajumaku Enyan Essiam District Assembly (AEEDA). Hon. Ransford Kwasi Nyarko, the DCE gladly received Nana Tanno II and Rev. Susan with the entire team though on a short notice. Nana Tanno II introduced Rev. Susan to the DCE and informed him about the purpose of the trip. In his response, the DCE expressed gratitude and commended the efforts by individuals and organizations who were assisting in various capacities to bring development to his people. He took his time to give a background and scope of his District and its uniqueness relating to the highest number of paramountcy in the entire country.

Hon. Nyarko further emphasized his relationship with Nana Tanno II and also plans they were putting in place as well as things being done to improve livelihood for the people of Fawomanyo and the entire district. Hon. Nyako mentioned the implementation of the 1.5 million cocoa plants and 500,000 coconut seedlings project for the District, of which Fawomanyo would be one of the 10 selected communities for nursing the cocoa seedlings. He also informed Nana Tanno II about his meeting with the Town Committee of Fawomanyo regarding the revitalization of the Agro processing equipment in Fawomanyo.  He is awaiting a response from the community on managerial and sustainability issues, then the equipment would be retraced for operations to commence.

In her remarks, Rev Susan introduced her associate and her presence in Ghana over the past few years as well as their mandate for youth development related works she has undertaken. She took the opportunity to encourage the DCE and expressed hope that her relationship with the District will only get better. Nana Tanno II took the opportunity to invite Hon. Nyarko to the Prayer Summit for the year 2018.

The next stop was at Breman Fawomanyo. In the community, the group went straight to the Basic School though school was on vacation. Nana Tanno II led the tour of the school, showing Rev. Susan the various areas within the facility. Nana informed Rev. Susan about his recent orders to fell some trees for construction of desks for some of the classes that did not have desks.

The kitchen for the school was in a deplorable state that required immediate action for reconstruction. Nana also informed Rev, Susan about the need for a community centre with various functions including a Library and an IT Centre.

In his remarks, he informed Rev. Susan about how some donations he had made to the school had been stolen due to the insecure Library where those things were kept. Rev. Susan went through almost every part of the school and asked various questions about the school; population, teachers, beneficiaries, prospects and vision among others. Nana Tanno II together with a community elder, Elder Sam Akombisa were available to give the necessary answers.

From the school, Nana Tanno II and Rev. Susan took a traverse through the community to the site for the agro processing equipment, where she looked at the equipment. Nana Tanno II explained the function and how it could be a source income generation to the community.

From there, Nana Tanno II led Rev. Susan to the bridge under construction and nearing completion. Nana gave the history of the bridge and the fact that its construction commenced after the Maiden Homecoming Festival the previous year. Though it had been in the plans for a long time, the Lord hastened its performance after the prayer during the Homecoming festival.

Rev. Susan sought to know if people had perished due to crossing of the river by the canoe. The response was in the affirmative. Nana informed her how people had to wait for others from the other community before they could cross the river and the dangers it posed as well as its negative impact on trade, commerce and education. Nana Tanno II for the first time stepped on the land of Nyamebekyere (Nsuoakyi), with Rev. Susan and all that were on the trip.    Rev. Susan advised that the old canoe be kept as relic from the present to the future generations.

The team headed towards the Palace, but before getting there stopped at a small scale gari processing unit in the community.

Nana informed Rev. Susan that this was being carried out on a small scale but would be expanded if successful. Rev. Susan, after Nana Tanno II tasted some of the gari and commended its taste as very good.

At the palace, the Town and Implementation Committees together with the School Head Teacher, PTA Chairman and the youth were waiting for the arrival of Nana Tanno II. Upon arrival, Nana Tanno II engaged the people and introduced Rev Susan and her colleague as well as their purpose for the visit. The community was very glad and appreciative for the love demonstrated by Rev. Susan and all who contributed to getting the books to the school. Rev. Susan reiterated the collaborated efforts by herself and Rev. Maxine in getting the books down to Ghana and Fawomanyo. She emphasized her passion for education and youth development, and hinted of more of such donations to the Fawomanyo and other communities. In joy and gladness, the Community offered a warm welcome and prayed for more of such kind gestures aimed at developing the community.

The books were handed over to the District Chief Executive who then handed them to the School Head Teacher. In his acceptance and hand over speech, the DCE recounted how education had brought him to where he is, and how education had the capacity to transform the lives of the children in the community to become assets to the nation. He charged the Head Teacher to ensure that the books were not destroyed and that the pupils were made to read the books as that was the only way they will be of great benefit to the community.

In appreciation of the thought and efforts by Rev. Susan to Fawomanyo, the people accepted her and Nana Tanno II pronounced that she was now a princess of Fawomanyo and an ambassador to the world. She was given the title “Susan Oheneba Graham”. Rev. Susan sat through the meeting and observed all the interactions between Nana Tanno II and his elders, planning for the upcoming Prayer Summit. She later made a cash donation in support of the Prayer Summit.

Nana Tanno II also offered the land to the DCE for the purpose of nursing the cocoa seedlings. In the same veil, Nana made a request to the DCE for the construction of the main roan through the community as it was in a bad state.

The trip was a successful one and the community was once again joyful knowing that the reign of Nana Kwadwo Tanno II was one that would attract development to them. They also expressed their willingness to embrace the Prayer Summit and reap the benefits therefrom.
